1. With a 40-pip lead, and not too much danger of getting gammoned, it's tempting to take this as White, but I think it's too risky. White has two dead checkers and an open 4pt so almost all the vig is racing vig, which could dissipate quickly with a couple of dances. D/P.
2. White doesn't have the second anchor yet, and even with the second anchor, her backgame timing isn't very good. However, Blue still has a lot of work to do and White does have a nice prime, so I think this is a take. Not sure about the double. I guess Blue does have some market losers (attacking White's blot, escaping the back checker) and remains a favorite in most cases, so I'm guessing D/T.
3. We could play safely with 8/7 9/4, but we have the stronger board so we should look at bold plays. 18/13 9/8 looks too bold; if our two back checkers get attacked we'll be in serious trouble. 9/8 6/1* is another possibility, but this seems to give White good 1's and 3's instead of just good 2's. The last candidate I see is 9/3, with good chances to make a six-prime or at least a five-point board. I think I will try 9/3.
4. At least we don't have to consider running a back checker. I wouldn't volunteer a shot here since the alternative isn't so bad. 7/1 3/1.
5. There are a couple positions in Robertie's 501 Problems in which he overestimates the chances that White will be able to scramble two checkers home. Here, Blue has three checkers on the 1pt, which is a plus for White, but Blue has a four-point board, which means that White will often be in big trouble if she runs off the anchor and gets hit. Still, White could hit Blue, and White still has a four-point board (though it doesn't rate to last very long). I'll take but without much confidence. D/T.
