Two different ideas

More than one way to skin a cat, obviously.
I dont see why there has to be one fixed path that must be taken in order to most effectively reach your desired result. The most common midgame theme is often a divergence of techniques required. Take a blitz for example. During your blitz (most common I think), there will come a point at which your focus moves from closing your home board to moving your own checkers around. Sometimes, this happens mid blitz (an anchor gets made, your own firepower runs out etc). How many times do you wonder how to play the prime leaping 6 vs the make your own prime 6? I suppose you really need to see a position with this kind of structural position to accurately demonstrate the idea. Someone / Anyone can put one such together.
In your specific example, either hitting for momentum and structure will be a good plan at this point in the game, or preparing yourself for a defensive extraction will also (at this point in the game) be equally as viable an option.
Two ideas - I think I have a small preference for the hit, but my doubles partner can convince me otherwise. I would naturally prefer to make the most complex game I can, provided of course, that I am better than my opponent. Of course, I want to reduce volatility too, especially at this score, which although not a match loser does have considerable swing value attached to it.
