Premiminary results for backgame

In Response To: Search interval in XG version 1 and 2 (Michael Depreli)

I've a set of 400 games that resulted in backgames.

The following is preliminary data as i just rolled a few position (300), the rest is analyzed using XGR++. I will roll the 236 cubes and 1972 moves remaining and repost when it's finished.

Also as I analyzed the match using only 3-ply (V1 and V2) I am giving only the difference compared to XGV1 normal and not absolute errors.

  • V2 3-ply Normal: +24.8 Elo
  • V2 3-ply Large: +25.2 Elo
  • V2 3-ply Huge: +25.2 Elo

    As a point of compariasion in "average" games V2 3-ply Normal SI gains +13.8 Elo compared to V1 and V2 3-ply Large SI gains 14.1 Elo.

    Two conclusions:

  • Backgames improved much more in V2 than the rest of the positions
  • Large and Huge SI gain very little even for backgames.

    Another intresting stats: after 400 games, the side that entered the backgame was losing 414 to 821.
