It seems straightforward to point on the 2pt. White loses outright on the 9 fans and some of her entering numbers are airballs. It's hard to see how Blue can do as well making the 11pt (or 7pt), though that does avoid getting hit outside on 51 41 31 65.

Perhaps the sequence that led to the game position was longer than the one listed in the caption. With the 31, White should have played the 3 down instead of up. (See Backgammon Openings, p. 71.)
