I guess your 12 year break had less of an impact on your game than my 12 year break had on my game, based on the shots you claim to be able to hit.

My poorly executed swings don't result in straight 300 yard drives. My drives might be 300 yards, but they sure as hell aren't straight if I don't swing well.

Also, I have not seen anybody make the kind of backspin you are talking about from the semirough. Maybe you play from less severe semirough.

Today's balls might fly longer, but I believe the good old balata balls could produce more spin. I still have a few of those and have managed to impress a couple of the backspin-horny juniors with some shots (from the fairway).
