It must be due to pink's good racing chances. After 8/7 8/5 pink is leading the race 78 - 82, and is on roll. Not completely clear how good pinks chances are since a five or six is needed to jump out, but I would guess somewhere around 50%. If grey hits pink will have 14 shots to (in all likelihood) win, while the 22 non-hitters will leave pink a clear underdog. It might actually be safer to hit and (more or less) decide the game right here, than to go into a race and see which way things go.

Moreover, the cube placement may play a significant role. In a race, pink will often find strong recubes, while in the hitting scenario pink will either have a clear ND, or grey will have a clear drop.
