bear off cube

Dear rambiz, well this is not so much a formula, rather a way of estimating the value of a race/bearoff position.
In short: Take the number of men in the inner board, multiply it by 4, add 2 for every man on the six point, add 1 for every man on the five point, subtract 1 for every man on the one point except the first man, subtract 1 for for every man on the two point except the first 2 men, than add points for the gaps according to the surroundings (here it starts to get a bit fuzzy - the value of gaps is a chapter on its own). Than add the normal pip count of every outfield man. Then take into account additional factors like volatility and the question of the additional man (i.e. 5 men on the one point are the same as 6 men on the one point, so in this case you have to add mentally that man).
If you are interested in this method, I can give you some examples where and how it works quite well. I developed this method in order to avoid all the big blunders I did in the past in my bearoff cube action. Well, there is no name for it yet.
