Blue is Player 1XGID=-C-BBCDa-----------a-cbce-:0:0:1:00:0:0:3:0:10 Blue on roll, cube action?
eXtreme Gammon Version: 2.00.168.beta
ok, here an example
This is a double, but is it a take? White leads by 3 pips, but his position is ugly.
I'd count the value of this position as follows:
blue: 14*4 = 56 (every man counts 4 at the beginning)
+8 = 64 (4*2 for the 4 men on the 6)
+3 = 67 (3*1 for the 3 men on the 5)
+2 = 69 (2*1 for the gap on the 2point)
-2 = 67 (subtract 2*1 for 2 of the 3 men on the one point).
So the value of b's position is 67 (the lower, the better, obviously).
White: 14*4 = 56
+ 2 (for the man on 6)
+ 2 (for the gap on 5)
-4 (for 4 of the 5 men on 1)
-1 (for 1 of the 3 men on 2)
+18 (for the man on 18)
+ 2 (for the crossovers) = 75.
Value difference is 8, i.e. more than 10 %. So should drop this.
Put the man on the 16th point instead of 18, and it will be a take (diff=6).
Put the man on the 17th point instead of 18 (diff=7, i.e. around 10%), and it will be very close (so you cannot make a real blunder wether you take or drop).
