When using this type of sampling plan you can only have two possible outcomes. In the case of looking for defects an individual is either good or bad. While it use to be common to call bad samples defects current terminology tends to use the terms conforming and nonconforming and typically refers to whether or not the sample conforms to the specification that has been established. When you start talking about parameters where you want to determine the distribution of some continuos parameter that you are measuring within a lot you have to apply other types of sampling plans. Also when you begin to talk about what level of nonconforming you can use you are getting into questions related to product design and specification development that are outside of the sampling plan. These issues can get very complex.
