You are not trying to win a gammon, just winning the game is enough. If you leave white to move, the board will break making the win easier. Don't hit, keep the prime. Probably 18/14 13/7 is the best, to have the most hits against escaping 6s.

At scores where gammons count the decision is likely more difficult.
