Volunteers help grow the game

These are three laws that I'd like to make sure my own kids don't learn:
- If you’re not a compulsive/addictive personality, there’s no point playing backgammon.
Do you think there is something inherently addictive about backgammon (beyond being fun to play)?
- There’s no more difference between playing for money and playing for fun than there is between a water pistol and a loaded gun.
Why even mention money? Younger kids can learn cubeless backgammon. Older kids can learn match play. They are learning a fun game that has some educational elements.
- If making others happy and being kind to others is important to you, then you should not play backgammon.
Wouldn't this apply to any type a competition (softball, soccer, tag)? I agree with your sentiment up to a point. At very early ages, it is important to learn working together and cooperation. But at a certain point you have to learn how to compete too -- how to win gracefully, how to lose gracefully, that friendship and camaraderie are part of the game.
