I'm not sure what play you found, but I definitely like S (Split, 24/18 13/10), which develops an offensive checker (while unstacking the midpoint) without directly exposing a second checker to being sent back.

R (Run, 24/15) gets hit with 4 fewer numbers, but if Blue is hit he won't have as many return shots on average and he will lose an extra 3 pips and won't have the favorable 13/10 already played. In that it develops that 3, D (Down, 13/10 13/7) may be better than R, but neither seem as good as S.
