'Not the USBGF's fault but there are many individuals that I would be concerned are looking to increase the future pool of fish for money play (or potential sales) and may not have so altruistic motives'
There are no, or at least very few, self-supporting backgammon pros anymore. The bots have leveled the playing field and if a player can cover his expenses traveling to tournaments, he has had an outstanding year. Everyone knows this.
I think the focus of many has changed as the game has changed. Many of us, especially the more maturing ones, are happy to share our knowledge with younger people because we have enjoyed backgammon as a hobby and as an intellectual pursuit and want to extend the opportunity to others to experience one of the worlds most interesting and surely the most exciting board game.
If you think someone in their early 60's is trying to teach young children to play backgammon so that his pool of fish will one day increase increase, actuarial tables would suggest that this is not a likely motive.
