I don't see why it has to eliminate buy-backs. You simply have a first round, with losers eligible for a buyback. Then you have a buy-back round (maybe shorter match length, or over dinner break, if necessary). Or, if time doesn't permit that, only the early finishers are eligible - but that's a problem with any buyback format. Then you have a draw of the winners of 1st round and buyback round, and proceed with UBK's formula.
