6/3 is a lot more destructive than you probably think. It puts a spare where the only thing it can be used for is to make the 1pt. You'd much rather use that spare to make the 5pt or 4pt. I'd only play 6/3 if there were very strong indicators that we need to play safely, e.g., if our opponent had a much stronger board than we did. We want to make the 5pt so why not slot it? We'll be hit with a 4 but White's 4's are pretty good anyway.
