When I said emulation layer I mean the emulation of the win32 API on top of Xwindows (That thunking layer has caused some on the wine team to admit they are emulating Win32 API but not emulating a CPU).
I use Wine for other apps and the one thing you have to put up with are screen/window refreshes taking much longer periods of time. I also agree with the multithreading - I stayed away from saying "native speed" and opted for "reasonable".
