I used the numbers at http://www.baseball-reference.com/leaders/slugging_perc_career.shtml. The slugging percentage difference is 6%, easily accounted for by park differences.

Really, the main difference is that Williams played against black people (although of course not alongside any black people, as the Crimson Hose were racist to the the core)and Ruth didn't. The difference in the quality of play between the 1920s and the 1940s- 1950s was enormous.

And if you think missing your age 24-26 seasons leaves you with "more in the tank", I guess I don't know what to say. I guess you could also say that people shouldn't bathe in water since evil humours might get them and infest them with the demon spirits. I can't disprove either notion.
