By making a four-point board with A (Attack, 8/4(2) 6/2(2), Blue makes it more costly for White to get hit back (wherever she may hit). This play gives Blue both the strongest board and the most number of points overall. If Blue is not hit, fully a third of his numbers (61 63 31 66 33 11 52 55) make a fifth point in the prime and without leaving a direct shot; plus 65, and sometimes 64, may be an outright winner.

Without knowing which play you actually made, it is difficult to make specific comparisons. For example, 13/9(3) 10/6 or 13/9 8/4(3) leaves the same number of blots outside (two) as A does, 13/9 10/2 6/2 leaves one blot outside, and 10/6 8/4(3) leaves no blots outside.
