Yes, I did see the shift but don't think it's right. Can't we just keep the five prime and move the four checkers deep into our board? Then 1-6 is his best but we eliminate several escaping fives (especially the near game-winning 5-5).

The other bad thing about shifting is the empty 5-point for the bearoff. To me that looks worse than having the spares on the 2-, 3-, and 4-points.

In fact if we play 4-4 by bringing all in and he fans, we might (don't know) continue to play on. If we shift and he fans I don't think we can afford to play on with the gap on the 5-point. (But I voted to cash now, so what do I know? :)
