What happened to our "nice race lead"?? Interesting Fram situation. Our position -- getting worse. Opp's position -- getting better. Home free if we volunteer and are missed? No way.
If we choose to pay later and opp rolls a 5 or 6 next turn, most of those times he clears the midpoint, I think. We still will leave (multiple) flyshots, though, trying to bring those four outfield checkers home.
If we decide to pay now I'm not even sure which play is best. 13/5 has some things going for it but probably not enough. 14/8 with 4/2 is great for flexibility but given that, if we get hit, return hitting a blot in opp's board is the only thing that saves opp from cashing (assuming he doesn't double on-the-come), it really doesn't make sense. That leaves 14/6 if "pay now".
As is typical with Fram problems, if you look at the shots you are forced to leave next turn (except for opp's likely solidified board) they don't look any worse than the ones you volunteer this turn, and you may not have to leave one at all. Still, it may not be the Sahara but that's quite a parched and barren landscape our four outside checkers are going to have to crawl through.
8/2, 8/6
P.S. Did Stick ever write a mythbuster article on the Fram rules?
