Side pool for nonbye players

Tom said: "Here's an idea. Charge everyone the same, say $10. But to compensate nonbye players, everyone who does not get a bye gets a free $5 entry into a side pool. The nonbye player who finishes highest collects the money in the pool."

Need a little extra information. If all of the $10 entry fees go to the winner of the main pool, where does the side pool prize money come from?
