Bridge Live Broadcast contrasted with BG live broadcasts

The Vanderbilt finals, one of the three major team events in the US, is now being broadcast on Bridge Base Online (BBO). http://www.bridgebase.com/client/client.php.

3000 people are watching at one table, 800 at the other.

Rather than streaming video, a monitor enters each bid or play into software, and the play is presented in an Adobe Flash client, making it a delight to view. All four hands are visible. All hands in a session are available, including action at the other table. There is textual commentary with optional voice commentary.

If only they had clocks to speed up the excruciatingly slow play, they would really have something!

But seriously, the BG community would benefit by following the BBO model--a low-bandwith software interface rather than streaming video. The transcript would instantly be available for download. The dice, cube, score, and players would be easily identifiable.

Thoughts?

My two cents: This would seem to be a great use of USBGF dues. Perhaps GridGammon or XG would be a good starting point for the client.
