You don't want to get BG'ed here, but I think worrying about the BG this early is counterproductive. Blue needs timing, badly.
I also don't feel like I need to shuffle the back points. Yes, 24+22 gets BG'ed more, but that assumes a $-game where there is more incentive to stay back. If I had an extra ace I would move 23/22 but that doesn't help the timing sufficiently.
I don't like checkers too low in the homeboard (nor does anyone else :) so 8/7*/3 seems more attractive than 8/7*, 6/2. The latter does save a five (that doesn't play 6/1) which is a plus, though.
If the timing goes all to hell, Blue can just concentrate on getting off the BG. I think not hitting with the hope that the timing cures itself later is too optimistic.
Summary: 8/7*/3.
