Instinctively I make the 5-point, even though it leaves 2/36 shots and THREE checkers on the 8-point. Also, if Split sticks his back checkers in our board, the spares lower in our outfield are better placed (i.e. two on the 10-point don't cover as many of our points.

The main argument for making the 4-point is that Stick is under extreme pressure to hop or break his board, so why give him outs? I don't think this is enough, but it certainly could be.
