I do not consider limit Texas Hold 'em to require as much skill as backgammon. I do not play no limit, but I also suspect backgammon to be a game which is more dependent on skill than no limit. Robertie wrote this article in 1999. I first read this article about two years ago and kept it in my backgammon folder. He may be referring to another Poker style which does require greater skills.

I've only played full limit Texas Hold 'em for three months online. Thus, I admit that I am no expert. However, I take the game seriously and have read five books and countless internet articles. My limited experience indicates that the skill requirements of Texas Hold 'em is significantly less than backgammon.

To further illustrate, my decision as to whether to play online backgammon or online poker usually centers on my energy and alertness. If I am a bit tired and want to wind down, I will play poker. If I am mentally sharp, I may play poker or backgammon. I would not enter a backgammon game without my full mental capacity. Yet, I may be able to play adequate (if not great) poker while being a bit tired.
