The challenge here is to find non-assumptive Nactations for the moves rated to be better than slotting in the original position. The evals given in the prior post rank these three plays above the slot (XG has all three; GnuBg has just the first):

  • 13/11, 13/7
  • 13/11(2), 13/9
  • 13/11(3), 8/6

Because the ranks within a Nactation family are relative, we will also consider these moves in the D (Down) family:

  • 13/9(2)
  • 13/11(4)

We also consider these moves in the O (Outer) family:

  • 13/5
  • 13/11, 13/9, 8/6

The first step is to identify the Nacatation family for each move. In this case, there are only two families in play. After that, it's as simple as counting. The only remaining bit of fuzziness for me has to do with the apples-and-oranges comparison between a blot moved into the inner board and a blot moved to the outer board.

Although the Nactation rules have been designed so that the "best" play in a given position is frequently awarded the capital letter in a Nactation family, you can see that they have failed in this instance. The play that GnuBg and XG have both identified as the best is ranked 4th within the D (Down) family.
