In Response To: The Ultimate Backgammon Board is ready to order (Jason Lee)

My partner, Tom Buckner, owns a very hi-tech manufacturing plant in Butler, PA that makes all kinds of sweet things for the military and government. He has very top level engineers and designers and the latest equipment, some of which can be used to make backgammon boards.

Tom fell in love with the game and over the past couple of years bought lots of different boards including FM, Erhan, Gammoner, and Geoffrey Parker. He loves boards, and realized that using the best design and engineering and the equipment that he already had, and some new equipment, he felt he could make a backgammon board that was better than anything on the market and sell it for under $1000.00. He invited me to offer my input and opinions and be his partner, and the result is the P-40.

Now, I know you can't please everyone. Some people will always love playing on a wooden board and love the looks and feel of a Taki board; and there are people who would swear by their Zavoral, Gammoner, Brazilian, or Geoffrey Parker or Erhan board. I have loved and used and owned all of those boards, and still own some of them.

Some people won't like the look and feel of our aluminum board, and some don't like metal-rimmed checkers. All I can tell you is that our board will wear like iron because it is made of aluminum, and there has never been a better, longer-lasting and nicer surface to play on. If you like metal-rimmed checkers, most places will charge you more for a set of those checkers than our entire board costs. Our cube is really cool, and as for the looks, take your pick from virtually any color of the rainbow and you can add a logo, initials or whatever you want. Once we are fully up, you can go on line and order a board and it ships within about 3 days.

And most who have played on it agree it plays very well...the checkers move just right and there is no catching on the points as they are chemically embedded into the fabric. So I think we have succeeded. I am sure you will get a chance to play on our board soon, as many have been pre-sold and will be delivered in the next week or so, and even if you don't love it, you will have to admit that it is an amazing board for the price. In fact, I wanted to sell it for much more but Tom, in the same thinking as Xavier, wanted to see his product in the hands of lots of people. Who doubts that Xavier couldn't have gotten a lot more than $50 for XG when it came out and was compared to Snowie for $400? Well, just like XG, when you look at what you get for $800 compared to ANY OTHER BOARD ever made, you will agree that this is an amazing product for the price.

Bottom line is I am blessed to have such a resourceful, brilliant partner with the desire to provide such a great product at a great price.

Oh yes, Tom loves the game but has never played in a tournament or chouette...he simply studies the game because he loves it and he has sponsored tournaments and donated generously to the USBGF and to streamers and others because he wants to support the game.

Glad you asked...pretty good story, isn't it?
