Before buying eXtreme Gammon........

I would tell all of your students not to buy extremeGammon. I am working on a new program of my own what not only gives all the right answers, but actually will move the checkers on line for you so that you don't have those irritating delays when you cheat. The new program is not a neuronet, but instead it is a Sticknet and is based on a far superior approach to the game. You can set the level of play anywhere from "donkey" and "you suck" all the way up to "play just like Stick."
It should be ready in a couple of years, so why waste money now on an inferior product?
On a more serious level, anyone who has used the current version of XG knows that it is a terrific tool. So if you are talking about your "students" I assume you mean college students and people who are learning the game from you, and the current XG will certainly provide them with everything they need to practice and learn the game (with your help, of course). So why wait? If there is anyone in the world out there that has used XG for any length of time that is sorry they bought it and prefers to use GNU instead, I have yet to hear of that person (with the exception of some of the top backgammon analysts in the world who might still use GNU for some rollouts or for comparison).
I do know some people who have stubbornly stuck with Snowie because "I paid $400 for it and it took me a long time to learn how to use it and I'm not about to throw it away." I suspect that's the same reason I see so many people in Ohio riding around in a horse and buggy. (And that's probably why we still see herb Roman wearing those pants with the elastic waistbands.)
