Live variance reduction tournament

Because of legal issues in Belgium, we are thinking of organizing a variance reduction tournament. Such tournaments are organized on dailygammon.com, see for instance http://bit.ly/dUIP86. Does somebody have any experience with or advice on the live version ?
The idea is similar to the Oslo Open 2011, http://nbgf.no/index.php?newsId=2043, which has been discussed in this forum in http://www.bgonline.org/forums/webbbs_config.pl?read=98042. While in Oslo players were ranked according to their error rate, in our case the idea would be to use for instance the 'luck adjusted result' (GNU Backgammon) or its equivalent in other software. Roughly speaking, this score is equal to the actual result minus an estimate of the player's luck.
Thank you for your hints, comments, and suggestions...
