Too much reduction?

My concern is the opposite -- that VR will take too much luck out of backgammon.

That's my concern too and that's why I decided to divide "luck factor" with 1.25 in var-red tournaments on DailyGammon*, so weaker players also have a chance to win the tournament and there is still important to win a match (not only to play better than opponent).

* For example, you have won with +50% luck.
In pure var-red you would get 1-0.50 = 0.50 points, and you opponent would get 0-(-0.50) = 0.50 points.
In my version, you get 1 - (0.50/1.25) = 1 - 0.40 = 0.60 points, and your opponent gets 0 - (-0.50/1.25) = 0 + 0.40 = 0.40 points.

But for new var-red tournament, many (high-rated) players said they want to play in "pure" var-red, without lower variance reduction. In couple of months, I'll be able to report how did that go and compare it with current var-red tournaments.

From my current experience, both as organizer of var-red tournaments and player in them:
I really like the concept of var-red and would like to participate in live var-red event; but I prefer "reduction of variance reduction" for the reasons written above.
