Hitting is clear, but what about the 2?

Our back checkers are already split, so in a sense moving 23/21 simply re-splits them. Right now they are relatively safe from attack, but if we advance one to the 21pt, White will surely hit loose if he cannot point on our head.

The five checkers on our 6pt are a major structural problem for us. Were White still anchored on our 1pt, we might consider slotting, but with his checkers split, that option is off the table. The best way to have an opportunity to activate our spares on the 6pt is to have them combine with an outside builder to make a point. To that end, let’s try playing down from the midpoint in order to maximize the number of builders.
