Simple poker definition help needed

Besides the Button/dealer, small blind, and big blind nomenclature which I find easy to remember, there are a couple more seats with special names but I have trouble telling apart. One gets to bid first on the first round (left of BB) and other acts right before (just to the right of) the Button. I think one is called "under the gun" and the other "Cutoff". But I can never remember which is which. If these words have any meaning there ought to be a way to keep them straight. What do these words really mean WRT poker player positions? Why is the Cutoff position called that (what is being cut off?.... yikes!) and what gun is the UtG position under?
