It depends on what site you are trying to access. The "Original" Gamesgrid (prior to it becoming GameAccount) is available at www.gridgammon.com (The client used is akin to the GamesGrid version from the mid 2000's).

I mention this because "GridGammon" is an entirely invite only system. It *may* be that the "invite" system you heard of was www.gridgammon.com (which is the original gamesgrid).

If this is the case, I would contact Stick at checkmugged@yahoo.com about getting an invite.
