Free for many smart phones, but not for iPhone or Android

In Response To: BGBlitz2go 2.4.0 is online. Completely free (Frank Berger)

In case you are wondering why the links posted by mobivention do not lead to web pages where BgBlitz2Go is free, you should read my comments over at Bill Robertie’s TwoPlusTwo forum:

Backgammon for mobile devices - iPhone, iPad, Android, Blackberry
forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showpost.php?p=32431896&postcount=44

For convenience, I am repeating them below:

  1. BgBlitz2Go uses a stripped-down version of the BgBlitz neural net. 2-ply is its most advanced mode. See the BgBlitz2Go FAQ for details. No information is given about the speed or responsiveness of this most advanced mode when running on a cell phone or tablet.
  2. The BgBlitz2Go FAQ reports an anecdotal analysis of only about 35 games. In this very small sample, the error rate was less than 2.0, and the ELO rating was over 1970. If this proves to be a general result, it makes BgBlitz2Go a very strong cell phone app.
  3. Certain smart phones can run BgBlitz2Go directly. The list of supported mobile phones is found on the BgBlitz2Go web site. On these phones, BgBlitz2Go is free, and there is no need to purchase or install Backgammon Gold software from mobivention.
  4. For the iPhone and Android, you must purchase the paid version of Backgammon Gold Premium (iPhone or Android) from mobivention in order to get BgBlitz2Go. It is not included in the free version of Backgammon Gold. Although other vendors may adopt the BgBlitz2Go AI in the future, at this writing, Backgammon Gold is the only product that currently has it for the iPhone or Android.
  5. Otherwise, you can download the free version of Backgammon Gold, and pay later to install a plug-in for BgBlitz2Go.

One question: I am the owner of a Barnes and Noble Nook Tablet. It wraps Android in a proprietary B&N user interface. Underneath the hood, it runs Android version 2.3.

Will BgBlitz2Go be ported anytime soon to the Nook Tablet?

Mike
