Well, if 61P-43U is better than 61P-43S for money, it is probably also better at DMP. Now, in your 54S-61P-21-d your midpoint is already reduced to 4 checkers. I believe this makes U(24/21) clearly better than D(13/10).

Agreed, and as further noted here for 61P-61P-43.

That takes care of U (24/21) being a clearly better play than D (13/10). However, there are two other candidates in this position that aren't covered by the 61P-43 vs xxx-61P-43 comparison, which are S (Split, 24/23 13/11) and $ (Slot, 13/11 6/5).

The value of S, by virtue of putting a checker on the 11pt instead of the 10pt, is that it leaves White's 54 and 63 as substantially weaker numbers than 64 would be the other way. However, I think a slightly more valuable deuce (than 13/11) is to promote the 23pt checker to the 21pt, where it has a clear view at escaping. My observations to this point are for money, though they should be at least as true at dmp.

I agree with David that because it makes some bad 4s good (splot formations usually need a healthy dose of duplication to be right), $ is an unreasonable play, though I believe it is less unreasonable at dmp.
