The seed is used to initialize the RNG (random number generator) used by the bot. Different seeds, together with different checker positions in XG, lead to different sequences of dice rolls.

If two rollouts of the same position are made using the same seed, they will have exactly matching dice, and the rollout results will be perfect duplicates. That is a bad thing, because it means that the rollouts cannot be combined to make one long rollout. In fact, the duplicate rollout can only be discarded.

The bottom line is that you should follow the instructions given in my last post that show how to set XG to generate a new seed every time the program is launched.

Don’t wait. It’s what Nack, Stick, David, Neil and many other giants are doing already.
