I see 11/3* as a candidate, but even though the 11-point could prove difficult to clear in the future, with ownership of the 16-point it really cuts communication. It also runs considerable risk of getting two sent back.

16/10, 6/4 leaves (five?) fewer shots than 16/8. Besides that, is there reason to think one might want or be able to actually make the 10-point? And even if you want to do so, how easy will it be?

16/8 puts/keeps the two checkers in useful positions for building the 3- or 5-points (or possibly the 7- and 8-points). White's homeboard blots lessen the pain of the extra hitting chances. There's quite a ways to go in this game and with several checkers already m/l out-of-play, I like keeping the remaining ones well positioned.

16/8
