I love this game! What I thought was a simple question turns out to be more complex. So, let's take it slowly.

The impetus for the question was my trying to understand opening rolls--more precisely, the effect of being the leader or the trailer in a match.

I thought that I would only have to analyze opening rolls in two scenarios: 1-away, 2-away (leader) and 2-away, 1-away (trailer), and not at other non-DMP scores. Then, I figured I would be able to generalize the results to any situation in which I was either the leader or trailer, irrespective of the magnitude of the score difference.

In other words, I thought that, for example, if playing 24/14 was the right play on the opening 6-4 roll at 1-away 2-away, then it would also be correct at say, 3-away 4-away, 6-away 7-away, etc., that is, 24/14 would be the right play whenever I was the leader.
