2013 Texas Backgammon Championships -- San Antonio

Tournament week in San Antonio !! I look forward to begin seeing players at the Menger Hotel by mid-week.

The weather is predicted to be superb -- sunny with nightly lows around 50 and the afternoon highs in the low 70's. This will allow everyone the opportunity, as they wish, to explore San Antonio, see the Alamo, stroll the renowned Riverwalk promenade, dine outdoors (or indoors) at one of the many fine restaurants along the Riverwalk, tour the Mission Trail, and to enjoy any of the many other activities offered by San Antonio.

The large outdoor pool is temperature controlled so be sure to bring your swimsuits to enjoy the afternoon weather and begin work on next summer's tan.

If possible, all players should bring a backgammon board. Championship players should bring a game clock if they have one -- we have quite a few available but may need a few more. For those with smartphones or I-pads, the Merkmatics Chess Clock app is inexpensive and works well.

We anticipate streaming many matches throughout the tournament. We will use a hardwire connection rather than Wi-Fi so, hopefully, we can provide a reliable, quality video of the action. Check here on the forum, on Facebook, on texasbackgammon.com, and usbgf.org for notification and information on matches to be streamed. Matches will be streamed on the USBGF website and will be free for all to watch.

The tournament has been well received and we are most appreciative of all those attending. In addition to those attendees previously noted here, we have recently received attendance confirmation from Bob Koca, Matt Cohn-Geier, Michy, and Akiko. Unfortunately, Paul Weaver has had to withdraw. The backgammon community will be able to view the matches and follow the progress of many of your favorite players, of many well-known players, and introduce yourself to the play and names of other great players as well.

We hope to keep everyone well informed.
