It would be fun to take every error over .05 and make a quiz out of it.
Congratulations on coming up with a fantastic side event....it drew a lot of great players to the tournament and a lot of interest world-wide. I had the pleasure of transcribing two of the matches while they were being played which allowed me to try to guess what the right play is, see their play (often different from mine, of course), and then see what XG thinks of their play and mine.
That was also a wonderful exercise and I am actually going to take a couple of selected games and go through them with students and see what they would play, what the Giants played, what XG says, and then discuss the plays in more detail to understand them better.
I also intend to roll out many of the plays where the Giant disagreed with XG and roll them out to see how often the Giant might actually be better than XGR++ and what kind of positions those are.
Another study I would like to see is just how much the luck factor mattered in the outcomes. Was there ever a match where the player who played better also had better luck and lost the match? Just how much luck factor was needed to overcome how much of a skill difference? Does XG's calculation of the luck factor truly affect the outcome of the match to the extent we think it does?
For future events like this, and I do hope there are more, I have several suggestions to improve the format and presentation, but I will discuss those with you, or anyone interested in doing this, privately.
