Hmmm, after reading the posts and thinking about it for some time, I think I can see this. White has at the moment the necessary timing so he is in a good shape for a backgame. Therefore, breaking the prime has to be wrong, because this gives white clear frontwards winning chances. This leaves 15/9 15/14 as the only possible QF play.

I do not think that white would like to be hit here. His chances should be better trying to play the backgame, rather than trying to jump with 5 checkers over blue's prime and completing a closeout at the same time. That means that blue can try to form the 9 point momentarily. If indeed xg as white does not hit, then I would not expect the gain from 15/14 15/9 to be big in the rollout. However against a weaker player that would hit, the gain could be considerably high.
