Half cross-overs and start counting in your own outerboard.

So those in the first half of your innerboard are -1 each (I deduct these at the end); in the second half, they count for zero (so skip them), in the first half of your outerboard for one each; etc until the ones in the far end of your adversary's homeboard (6 each) and on the bar (7).

(For the difference between you & oppo, multiply by three)

Example: at the start of the game, you've got 5*0+3*1+5*3+2*6 = 30

Continuation: for an approximation of the real pipcount multiply by 3 and add 75. Correct one at a time for the exact race (every checker in the middle of each three point area: no correction, every checker at the front minus one; every checker at the start plus one).

Example: approximation at the start of the game: 3*30+75 = 165. If you want the precise answer, the five in your home board (behind the middle of the segment) and the five on the mid point (ahead) compensate each other. Therefore, only add two for the back checkers: 167.
