White is XG Roller++

score: 2
pip: 162
5 point match
pip: 185
score: 4

Blue is BGO Readers

Blue to play 56

The opponent’s blot on our 17pt (his 8pt) is the most significant factor here. If we stay back on the 24pt, he cannot safety it by slotting behind us. On the other hand, if move up from the 24pt to 18pt, we will have a spare checker that threatens the opponent’s blot in case he must leave it exposed on the 17pt.

The alternative for us is to run out to the 14pt after hitting on the 20pt. Leaving a blot there would give XG a chance to hit when it rolls 2, without much attendant advantage for us when it misses. I prefer the safety and flexibility of a third checker on the 18pt. Let XG go ahead and slot behind us.

U (Up) = bar/20*, 24/18
