It will be TG anyway, but much of white's equity is predicated on gammons from hitting safely, when his gammons increase a fair bit. A premium therefore is on moves which a) reduce the white's safe hitting rolls, and b) nearly guarantee getting off the gammon if white misses a safe hit (after which, only 11,22,66 don't safety the blot). 21/18 does both, and maximises the smidgen of race equity remaining. Then just burn the ace to the 4point. These factors over-ride the usual 'if behind stay back' mantra when you can only have a maximum of 1 checker back, so no chance of saving the gammon with an anchor.
