Not sure why you cleared the database, as the new version would have used all preferences and databases from your 2009 release.

That being said I'm not sure if you are referring to setting the default player names through the "Settings" menu and the "Players" item.

Initially the database is empty until you add matches to it. Once you add matches the player names will use whatever names you used to play the matches/sessions.
