Rick: 1. Before and after shaking hands with a Hittite Opponent (or Elamite) be sure to count ones fingers. (Note: This may be an oblique reference to a rudimentary form of pipcounting).
2. Should a Hittite Opponent (or Elamite) offer the wager of the trebling/quintupling block (ie, equivalent to doubling cube) it is prudent to carefully turn the block over with a stick first before accepting. (Note: This appears to be the earliest known reference to risk-reward analysis).
Funnily enough, the same rules apply when playing Englishmen too. Thats a more current rule though.
Additionally, you know the English must have been involved in this game somehow - how else would such an impossible position arise.
