What I meant was coming up with a number that removes the highest and lowest PR's and then averages the rest. I believe that number would result in a much lower number than a complete average, as I believe there will always be a few players that will post really high numbers that would not be reflective of 90 percent of the players in the tournament.

I do believe that the average for the first round would be closer to 8 or 9 because of this, but again, that is just an opinion and guess and not based on any study. I doubt we will see a study on this for many years if ever, as nobody records and transcribes every first round match.
