That was my reasoning too.

  • Decide first to keep the anchor.
  • Play the 6.
  • Choose one of two 3s. Three inner-board blots is hopeless.
The only thing I might add is that since Blue is ahead in the race, he may find that he is out-timed. If he is forced off his anchor before White is forced off his, Blue cannot afford to be toothless when that happens.
