I'm not impressed with the writing. Most of the actors speak with the same voice, a sort of pseudo-intellectual bravado. Leonard is not the writer, of course, so not faulting him. I know the fellow who brought this to TV (same guy who wrote Speed and more), and he doesn't speak that way either.
