In Response To: relationship between money game PR and match play PR? (Tenland)

I just wanted to clarify something that is important to the discussion but that is sometimes overlooked. It is important to distinguish between long-term averages and the performance in a single game or match.

The variance in a short match is higher than in a long match. So even if my long-term average is 4.0 in both five-pointers and thirteen-pointers, I will (most likely) play under 4.0 more often in five-pointers than in thirteen-pointers. This can give me the (false) impression that I am playing a lower PR in five-point matches, if I'm focusing only on the low-PR end and overlooking the fact that I'm also playing high-PR matches more often in five-pointers than in thirteen-pointers.

If you want to compare with money games, then you have to make sure that you're choosing the right number of money games to average over, if you want a fair comparison.
